My name is Jake, and I’m fifteen years old. I am one of the youngest kids in my class, even though I am one of the tallest. I have lived in New Jersey my entire life, a state I like because of, among other things, the weather. I love the fact that New Jersey has four seasons. We get extreme heat, freezing cold, and everything in between. The range of weather is appealing to me, because I like to go sledding, and I like going to the beach. I have three brothers and a dog, all of whom make my home a rowdy place. Because of the large number of boys in my home, I am very interested in sports. This has been a particularly exciting year for me because of the Yankees’ win in the World Series. The Jets too have caused much of excitement for me. They had an unexpectedly good year and have now made the playoffs.
It seems like my whole family has gone to Frisch. My parents, their siblings and cousins, and my older brother all went to Frisch. I also have a cousin in my grade. It was inevitable then that I would attend Frisch, but now that I am here, I love the school. First, there seems to be something for everyone here. Whatever interest a person has, he/she can find a club to indulge that passion. My favorite club is the film club. Every month we watch a movie and discuss it. The film club is a great way to learn about older movies that I otherwise would never have known.
I am also very interested in music and mostly listen to classic rock. My favorite musician is Eric Clapton, and my favorite song is “White Room,” which he wrote when he was with the band Cream. One of my greatest interests is history. I love knowing about the past. I think it is so important for people to know what has already happened, so they do not make the same mistakes that their ancestors made.
I also love to watch T.V. There is nothing I love more than relaxing at night in front of a T.V. It is so enjoyable to lie down on a couch and flip on the T.V. and search for something to watch. Anything is fine whether it be a show, movie, or just some sports game that happens to be on. Much less enjoyable is doing homework all night, which is quite often my fate. However, I always try to make sure there is at least one night during the work week that I can relax without having to do too much work. This way, even though some nights I end up working all night, I get some nights when I am free to do as I please. Compromising this way keeps me somewhat sane and allows me to carry on; otherwise, I do not know how I’d cope with all my work.
I like Yonina’s idea that the world is really good. Sometimes people do get caught up in all the bad that happens and cannot see all the good. People just need to remember that every cloud has a silver lining.
